Bench Press Explosion! 3 Keys to Add Over 100 Pounds to Your Bench Press in As miniature As 4 Months

In 1999, I increased my bench press from 185 pounds to 300... In less than four months! I neither followed any extra diet to accomplish this, nor did I take any supplements or use any drugs. Don't get me wrong; if I could do it over again I surely would have eaten healthier and added a few high-quality supplements. (A multi-vitamin and a post-workout protein powder at the very least!) Alas, I did not. So how did I do it?

Well, there were a handful of contributing factors, but believe it or not, there were only three keys that were as a matter of fact essential: 1) I used very literal, practice form, 2) I made a quarterly convention of attempting to lift more weight than I opinion I could (with allowable form, or course), and 3) I gave each muscle group adequate rest days to fully recover in between workouts.

Saw Bench

What do I mean by "strict practice form"? In the case of the bench press, literal, form means retention your feet on the floor and your butt on the bench. If you feel the need to lift up your butt or arch your back like you're trying to do a back bend, that means the weight you are trying to press is more than you can handle. Period. You're good off training with less weight for a few weeks, and then arrival back to the current weight when you can enounce literal, form. This may mean putting your ego on the shelf for a week or two, but suck it up! It's a small price to pay for a commitment to doing things right!

Strict practice form also means staying within the literal, range of motion. You need to keep your range of appeal consistent with how the human body is designed. In other words, only lower the bar until your elbows are to the sides of your ribcage. If your elbows drop any lower, some of the weight your pecs are bearing with will shift to your shoulder joints. This creates a weak link in your lift, which not only gives you a less-effective workout, but over time will create rotator cuff issues.

By the way, the old opinion that a bench press rep is "not unblemished unless you touch the bar to your chest" is plainly not true, for 99.9% of the population. The remaining .1% have deep, barrel chests and short arms, which makes for good power lifter. At the point where the bar touches a power lifter's chest, his elbows are about even with the sides of his ribcage. If this doesn't communicate you, however, that bar shouldn't come in any place near touching your chest.

The second key I mentioned is to bite off more weight and reps than you think you can chew. As I made my way to benching 300 pounds, my workout partner and I would make sure the heaviest sets of each of our workouts were with more weight than we opinion we could lift.

For example: Let's say we saw in our workout log that in our previous chest workout our heaviest set of bench presses was with 205 pounds, for 6 reps. This workout, we felt determined that we could bench 215, but 225 would be too heavy. So how heavy would we resolve to go this time? 225, baby! And to our amazement, we approximately always lifted the weight! As you can imagine, these unexpected successes resulted in very fast drive gains! I must stress again that even on our heaviest sets, we always lifted with allowable form. If we couldn't lift the weight without cheating, that set was over.

As for sets and reps, we would start with a weight that we could accomplish nearby 15 to 20 reps with, and then add weight each set until we had to give it our all just to squeeze out even a few reps. Our sets ordinarily totaled 4 or 5.

Finally, we made sure to give our bodies abundance of rest in between workouts. This meant training each body part no more than one time per week. Remember, your body builds muscle in between workouts - not during - so you're good off erring on the side of too much rest than not enough.

And there you have it! Make sure your practice form is crisp before you jump into doing super-heavy sets. It won't do you any good if you injure yourself because you can't control the weight you are lifting. The old adage, "If you are going to do something, it's worth doing right!" never applied more.

Lift hard and lift safely!

How to Bench Press 225 Lbs - The Mind of a Bench Presser

Bench press beginners often ask how to bench press 225 lbs. For many starting bench pressers, this is the first milestone in their quest for huge bench press strength. But the retort is very straightforward - the same way you do 300 bench press. Or 1,000 lbs. The weight you can lift is a effect of your strength - both physical and mental. The bench press technique is the same. The equipment is the same. The only variables that change are physical and psychological strength.

Training for physical strength is fairly easy to do and measure. Psychological strength on the other hand is often very hard to gain. Repeating to yourself that you can do it does not equal to having a strong mind. The trick is to not convince yourself that you can lift a safe bet weight, but to truly believe you can do it and at the same time, be in fact able to do it. You body and mind needs to be in sync on this.

Saw Bench

One of the key factor that determines both of your strengths is consistency. If you are consistent in your training and put as much attempt in it as you perhaps can, both inside and covering the gym, you not only train your body, but you also give your mind a clear impulse that it can rely on your body. Only then you can start working on convincing your mind, that your body can in fact lift more than it ever did before.

When you train for strength, you get to test it at the end of the cycle. That is the time, when your challenge your body and your mind with a weight you never before even attempted to lift. At that point, both your body and your mind must be 100% sure of what can be lifted. In a competition, this weight would be your first attempt. A starting point, so to speak.

Once this attempt is completed, you start working on your mind to convince it, that your body can lift more. You can use meditation and logical persuasion, such as basic ration calculations based on your lifted weights. Some population like to hear others yelling at them, some population even like to be smacked to get the rush of adrenaline going. No matter what, one thing you actually need to do is to visualize yourself to lift the weight.

It is easier said than done. I am not talking about looking yourself to stand on the pedestal with a medal in hand. You need to visualize the lift itself. You need to feel the weight. You must not be worried about failure or victory. Nothing but the lift. Picking up the bar. Stabilizing it. Tantalizing it down. Touching the chest. Awaiting the lift command. Pressing it up. Placing the bar on the rack. The complete lift. This will give your mind an impulse that it is not only possible to lift the weight on the bar, but that it has already been done. So your mind will think of it as something your body can do, because it did it before.

Training your mind to trust your body requires a lot of training. But the stronger your body becomes, the stronger your mind will be too. Just keep in mind, that your bench press strength is only as good as the weakest link. So make sure, that there is none. And if you spot one, train it harder than whatever else to catch up with the rest. There is no other way to big bench press strength.

separate Types of Drill Press and security Tips Using the Drill Press

A drill press is a permanent style of drill that can be bolted onto the floor or mounted on a stand or workbench. It helps drill holes in wood, metal and a variety of other materials. The drill press produces correct holes. Repetitive holes can be drilled in the same spot and at the same depth accurately and quickly.

Speed can be adjusted via changing pulleys and belts. Drilling big holes normally requires a slower speed.

Saw Bench

A floor-standing drill press is more excellent and can be used with many kinds of materials. Bench-top drill press is a lot more compact. These two types of drill presses are the best for lighter and easier jobs.

Besides drilling holes, there are also separate types of bits and attachments you may get to add versatility to the machine. This includes mortise bits, planer heads and standing drums.

Listed below are some types of drill press:

- Floor Model Drill Press - This drill press is the most loved type of drill that can be found in pro wood shops. It is adequate with longer columns and higher power motors. The column length of this floor drill presses are generally 66'' to 72'' high. The advantage of this type of press is it allows you to deal with larger work pieces because the table can in fact run the full length of the column. The average price of this drill press ranges from 400 to 1,000 Us dollars.

- Ryobi Dp121l Drill Press - This is a type of 12-in bench top with multi-features. It has a dual laser type of guide, a 500-3000 Rpm capability, a L.E.D work light, and speed readout. Speed can be changed just by challenging a lever from the left housing, or adjusting the pulleys and belts. average price 120 Us dollars.

- 5 Speed Bench Drill Press - This is easy to use and can drill faster. The 5 spindle speed of this drill press is for drilling steel, wood, plastic or aluminum. It has a fully adjustable table with an angle indicator. The average amount of this drill press is 130 Us dollars.

- Radial Drill Press - This drill press has an adjustable portable spindle. It is ideal on heavy work, where many holes are drilled.

Safety tips when using drill press:

- Always be alert or aware where you are putting your fingers to avoid accidents.
- Do not use bits that are bent, damaged or dull.
- Ensure the bit is centered in the chuck and tightened before operating the drill.
- Use a clamp when drilling metal to avoid the material spinning to your hand or body.
- Never turn on the drill press before clearing the table.
- Never use drill bits that have a screw tip.
- Do not turn on the drill press with the drill bit is in perceive with your work piece.
- Avoid awkward hand positions.
- Avoid drilling materials that do not have a flat surface.
- Avoid wearing neckties or gloves when operating the drill press.

Matching Circular Saw Blades to Materials

Circular saw blades come in many separate styles to match separate applications. The material you're cutting and the type of cut will rule the right circular saw blade for your job. Refer to your circular saw's documentation to rule the permissible blade size. Never use an incorrectly sized blade with your circular saw.

What's Your Saw Blade Made Of?

Saw Bench

Steel circular saw blades are cheap. These blades are fine for soft wood or other soft materials, but will dull swiftly when used with hardwood.

High Speed Steel (Hss) blades are more costly than tasteless steel blades. Hss circular saw blades deal with harder materials than tasteless steel and last longer.

Carbide circular saw blades have carbide cutting tips. These blades are among the most costly but can last up to 20 times longer than other blades.

Got Wood?

A number of saw blade types are right for cutting wood. Ripping saw blades (to cut with the grain) and crosscut saw blades (to cut across the grain) are two tasteless saw blades exquisite for wood.

Combination blades incorporate ripping and crosscut features in a single blade. Composition saw blades are good for miter cuts. When finding at Composition blades, remember that a higher tooth count will consequent in a smoother cut.

Plywood blades are exquisite for cutting thin sheets of wood. The high tooth count of plywood blades makes for a very plane cut.

A dado blade is used to cut accurate grooves in wood. These blades, which contain two cutting surfaces and a set of chippers, can only be used safely with bench or table saws.

Engineered To Be Perfect

Dimensional or engineered materials often need to be cut to tight tolerances. A thin kerf saw blade has a narrow profile that makes a then, accurate cut.

Hard As A Rock

Abrasive saw blades are coated with ground material to cut through hard material. An grinder saw blade is exquisite for cutting masonry, stone or steel.

Diamonds Are Forever

Diamond coated blades are a extra type of grinder saw blade. Solitaire blades are designed to cut glass, tile or ceramic materials.

World Bench record Statistics - Check Out These breathtaking Bench Presses

To say what world bench description is may be harder than you think. There are many separate organizations that monitor bench presses. Some of them do drug tests, others do not. Some population think only raw bench press to truly quantum the bench press strength. There are many separate opinions and ways to quantum bench press strength. Still, here are some of the most memorable records ever benched. Either the way they were performed are in sync with your carrying out criteria is unsure. But each and every one of these benches are monumental in their own right for sure.

The biggest lift ever performed is 1050lbs, credited to Ryan Kennelly and performed in 2007 in Apa competition. This is a fully qualified bench press record, and not drug tested. But before you start complaining about those two facts, let me ask you - how close are you to this monumental world bench record?

Saw Bench

When it comes to raw world bench record, the king has been crowned all the way back in 2005 in Apf competition. It was the year when Scot Mendelson benched breathtaking 715 lbs! Imagine, lifting all that weight with no extra equipment. Nothing, just a t-shirt and herculean bench press strength.

These two lifters hold the world bench description for absolute bench press weight lifted. But there are other lifters, who will never be able to reach this weighty bench, yet they still lift breathtaking weights most population just dream about.

How about Andrzej Stanaszek, who is a holder of world bench description for Ipf with 391lbs lifted. Not too impressive? Think again! His body weight at the time of the description was only 111 lbs, development this lift an foreseen, 3.51 times of his body weight! And, to make this even more amazing, this was a raw bench press! dream benching 3.5 times your own body weight raw... And, Andrzej Stanaszek also holds a world bench description for qualified bench - 402.3lbs. An foreseen, 3.65 times his body weight. Can I hear "Go Andrzej!"?

So there you have it. 3 breathtaking men holding each holding an breathtaking and practically out-of-this-universe world bench record. Either you are training to lift the max weight or the biggest relative weight, I hope these 3 men will provide sufficient inspiration to keep you going. Who knows, maybe a year from now, I will be writing about you.

The extreme Guide to Your Most perilous Woodworking Power Tools

"What is the most hazardous woodworking power tool?"

That's what I asked the woodworkers at the woodworking forums FamilyWoodworking.org and WoodNet.net.

Saw Bench

WoodNet.net's woodworkers responded with 55 replies and the guys at FamilyWoodworking.org responded with 51 replies with over 3000 views between them.

The chilling experiences and hard-knock wisdom from both forums inspired this article, and I hope that by reading this and following the links I supply that you become a safer, more tool-respecting woodworker.

The #1 Most hazardous Power Tool
After over 100 responses to the "most hazardous tool" query the seasoned woodworkers from both forums delivered an unequivocal answer.

There Is categorically a power tool that's more hazardous than any other in your wood shop and you need to treat this tool with more respect and care than your table saw, shaper, jointer or chain saw.

And the estimate one most hazardous power tool in your wood shop is You.

Make sure that You treat every tool with the respect and care it deserves, that every tool you use is well maintained and well sharpened, and that your wood shop or work area is tidy sufficient to prevent spills.

Also, learn to listen intimately to your internal voice of experience. Many woodworkers report reasoning "gosh this is dangerous," or "this could categorically hurt" right before their big trip to the accident room. Back off immediately if you find your safety senses tingling.

I) the Top Ten Most Feared and Respected Tools by Woodworkers
Below you'll find the top ten most feared and respected woodworking power tools based on the votes they received in FamilyWoodworking and WoodNet. I counted votes as tool mentions, and I counted more than one "most hazardous tool" per someone if they listed more than one. This is Not intended to be scientific in any way, nor is it intended to suggest that you be more right with one tool than any other.

Also, because these woodworkers indicated that maintenance is such an leading factor in tool safety, I included maintenance resources - when available - for each tool.

There's a similar non-scientific most hazardous woodworking tool discover from rec.woodworking... The results are quite similar, though neither discover listed there consist of a wood shaper...

Also, WoodNet's Jakesaw pointed out this web-based power tool safety project that lets you input how you got hurt, what hurt you, and your taste level so that others can come later and learn from your mistakes. Awesome.

Update - Yak from WoodNet pointed to the mother of all woodworker's safety guides from Osha.

1) You are the most hazardous power tool (or - alternately - which ever tool you use next is the most dangerous)
I'm not sure if the tool operator got the most votes for being the most hazardous or not. I do estimate that "the power tool operator" got the most unabridged conversation, seminar and deliberate upon in both forums.

Treat every tool you use with respect... And check out the "condition of the user" section below for more ideas on keeping a "safety first" mentality while using power tools.

It's impossible to overemphasize that the tool between your ears is categorically the most hazardous tool you possess...

2) The Table Saw: 15 Votes
The table saw received the most votes, beating out the shaper by two.

I noticed that many guys who said "table saw" mentioned that they'd heard it was the most statistically dangerous, not that they feared or respected it the most.

Even so, the table saw is a formidable wood shop tool and worthy of respect due to its frequency of use and the sheer estimate of saws in wood shops nearby the world.

3) The Shaper: 13 Votes
I sensed the most power tool respect... And fear... In the replies that included the grand shaper. What is it that gives woodworkers pause when firing up the "grand father of routers?" It's got to be the size of the blades on those bits... And the realization of the size of hole it could make in your body.

4) Chain Saw: 6 Votes
The roaring engine, the exposed and oh-so-mobile blade, the Texas Chain Saw Massacre, is it any surprise that the chain saw made its way onto the list? My only surprise is that it made the list from guys at woodworking forums... That said, there is an provocative thread in woodnet about chain saw sawmills...

5) Router: 6 Votes
In the tool kit of many a wood shop, the versatile router is also among the top most-feared power tools, though primarily when used free hand. Why? 6) The Jointer: 6 Votes
The jointer made it up into a three-way tie with the chain saw and the router. Probably because of the ease with which one could feed one's hand into it... Plus the fact that it's not going to gash you, but rather give you a puree-style wound.

7) The Band Saw: 3 Votes
The band saw is other wood shop standard that seems relatively harmless... Especially next to something like a chain saw. I think it made the list in part because it's a tool that many woodworker are comfortable with. Comfortable = dangerous.

10) The Circular Saw: 2 Votes
The circular saw is a power tool standard. Its usage spans over groups, from Diyers to woodworkers to general contractors and beyond. Ii) The Most hazardous Power Tools Statistically
I noticed once or twice in the forums guys cited government studies with regard to which tools are, statistically speaking, responsible for putting the most guys in the accident room.

In the study I found from the Us consumer goods safety Commission (Cpsc) - Hazard Screening Report: Power Tools and Workshop tool from 2003 (warning - that link is a Pdf) - I was Not able to statistically determine the power tool that put the most habitancy in the hospital.

However, the tool group - after "manual workshop tools (hammers, utility knives, chisels etc...)" and "Misc. Workshop tools" - that caused the most condition care charge was Bench or Table Saws, at nearby billion.

Anecdotally speaking, Frank Fusco of FamilyWoodworking, whose son is a Board Certified accident room doctor in a Level 1 trauma unit, noted: "I'll repeat what my son, an accident room physician, says. The most frequent serious injuries are with table saws.

The second most frequent serious injuries, in terms of numbers of incidents, are from miter and/or compound miter sliders.

However, in terms of most devasting the Csm is far and away the worst. Those ordinarily involve finger amputations. The table saw accidents are serious gashes but (usually) leave the fingers in place.

He also says that most of those injuries are to guys like me, middle age to retired age. And, they all say the same thing, 'I never do it that way, but just this once.........'"Don't let the statistics scare you - too much. It only makes sense that the tools that we use the most frequently end up hurting us the most frequently. It's far more leading to look at our next section - the condition of the user.

Iii) The condition of the User
Time and again the guys in the forums reminded me that the User is the most hazardous power tool, and that the most hazardous power tool is the one that you pick up next.

I identified several other condition-of-the-user-related points from their comments, and combined that with some wise words from Basic Woodshop Safety, by Howard Ruttan, who I'll quote here:"If you are hungry or sick, tired or angry, hot or thirsty, you are at risk. Don't work if you are overly fatigued or not feeling up to your game. Attitude is extremely leading also. Remember that woodworking is supposed to be fun. Isn't that why you are doing it? Take a break when you get frustrated. Don't work angry."

Some other hazardous reasoning conditions include:woodworker's just too comfortable with the tool and doesn't give it proper respect trying new tool out just for a second - one woodworker told a story of occasion up a new chisel just to try it out for a second, resulting in a trip to the hospital ignored/didn't fully recognize the significance of the pre-tingles that sometimes come before getting hurt (Stay Alert!! many injured by power tools report tingling senses...) trying something new, cutting/chopping/ripping/drillng in a distinct way - experimentation is leading and necessary... And risky. Remember the words that Fusco's son hears in the trauma unit from injured woodworkers: "I never do it that way, but just this once........" working tired, hungry, rushed, angry or some combo of the four... lazy - doing job the quick way do I categorically need to put drunk or drinking alcohol on here? Gosh I categorically hope not.

Iv) The condition of the Tools
"i`d say that i agree with the most hazardous powertool being one that`s poorly maintained, specifically one with dull cutters....
shapers/routers-n-moulders will turn meat into hamburger....no repairs!"
- Tod Evans

Tod, of FamilyWoodworking, says it well. Take care of each power tool you own as advised in the manual. Sharper is safer.

Tool Maintenance Made Easy, an exquisite report from Rockler, breaks it down like this:

Part I - keeping Them Sharp
Part Ii - keeping Them True
Part Iii - keeping Them Clean and Smooth
Part Iv - keeping Them Running Smooth

If you'd like a second view This Old House brings us Tlc for Power Tools.

Osha delivers, more for the wood shop enterprise owner, Hand And movable Powered Tools, which includes coarse repairs and things to watch for.

V) The condition of Your Workspace
Are you the neat and tidy type? If you're like me you've got dishes on your desk and clothes on the bedroom floor. This means you have to work twice as hard to keep your wood shop or workspace safe straight through cleanliness and organization.

That said, it's not just tidiness that keeps you safe... It's also keeping your workspace free from distractions that break your vital concentration. This includes, but it not tiny to the radio, someone hollering that the phone is for you, your cell phone ringing and the list could go on...

Minimize interruptions by notifying - in no uncertain terms - the folks nearby you that they are not to speak to you when you're operating power tools.

from safety In The Woodshop I'd like to point you to:
Make safe bet you have proper lighting when carving. Spotlights are preferable to overhead incandescent or fluorescent lighting. Lighting located behind and to your side best highlights your work.

Keep floor swept and clear of tools and other clutter. Wood chips and dust pose many safety concerns (e.g. Respiratory, fire, safe footing).

And keep those power cords off the floor!

The National Ag safety Database offers some great guidelines on a safe wood shop. They consist of suggestions and guidelines for stuff like lighting, heat source, ventilation, wiring, fire extinguishers and more.

Here's Shop safety by the Nasd.

This shop safety guide from Ohio State provides an exquisite shop safety checklist... And then safety guides to many of the power tools mentioned above.

Vi) Woodworking safety Accessories
Do you have push sticks, push blocks and a finger or feather board? These are very easy to make and are available almost everywhere you can buy good power tools or wood.

Here's a short tiny guide to using push sticks to increase your safety Using Push Sticks

About.com's Chris Baylor teaches you how to Make Your Own Featherboards

And the Diy network offers a rundown on all of the woodworking safety accessories I mentioned above.

Vii) First Aid
You keep a first aid kit in your wood shop for the same fancy you drive with auto insurance. No Not because it's the Law... Because luck favors the prepared.

I particularly liked the woodworker's first aid kit as described by Howard Ruttan. Not only is it comprehensive, but it has some of the real-world humor you only hear from woodworkers. Such as at the end of his fancy for keeping a 1 gallon plastic bag in your first aid kit: Used for carrying amputated bits in whilst en route to the hospital. I am not kidding here. Just last year a undertaker of a package deal in Pennsylvania cut his entire hand off in a sliding compound miter saw. The bag has to be big sufficient for every contingency. Try to wash the amputed part before placing it in the bag. However, if you are unable to, I am sure the doctors will understand.

The Diy network also provides an exquisite overview of what should be in your first aid kit.

Viii) Bonus: Wood Shop safety Humor

"Wait A Minute" I can hear you thinking... What does Humor have to do with Safety?

One of the cool things about forums - and one of the pains sometimes - is how a conversation thread can take a sharp and sudden turn, sometimes 180 degrees from where it once pointed.

Bill Wilson took the WoodNet.net thread 180 degrees with his clever, creative and funny response to my query about the most hazardous power tools.

Here's a taste:
Welcome to The Wild Wood Shop. Today we will discover the unique ecosystem, known as the home woodshop. Below is a brief report of some well-known wood shop dwellers.

A solitary and regal predator, the table saw employs sharp grand teeth, well grand for ripping even the hardest woods with relative ease. There are several varieties of table saws, fluctuating from the small bench top, to the king of table saws, categorically the king of the predators, the Unisaw. Though primarily a stationary creature, it is possibly one of the most active of all woodshop animals. Table saws have proliferated and are found in nearly all shops where wood is in sufficient supply. They prefer choice, imported hardwoods, but when hungry will readily feed on cheaper domestic softwoods. They have become less of a threat to humans, due to right breeding and training, but still are to be considered quite dangerous, especially while feeding. Occasionally they will, with minimal provocation, disgorge their food with astonishing force.

Push Broom (sweepus seldomus)
The most primitive and oldest species of wood shop animal. It is believed that ancestors of the contemporary push broom were domesticated millions of years before the first wood shop animals appeared and often cohabited with humans. They gently were relegated to garage, basement and shop environments during the Electrolux era. This venerable and simple scavenger has survived the eons due primarily to its capability to go for long periods of time without food. By conserving its energy, it can appear to fall into a near trance-like state of suspended animation for extended periods of time. Unlike the voracious Dust collector and Shop Vac with which it competes, the push broom is article to sit idle for days, even months.

Thanks + Wrapping it Up
I would like to increase a extra thanks to the woodworkers at WoodNet.net and FamilyWoodworking.org who contributed so much wisdom and taste to this project. If you're hungry for more woodworking society I gladly point you to Both forums as astonishing environments for learning.

I hope this guide helped you recognize some ways you can take more responsibility for your personal wood shop safety.

Basic safety Measures When Using Table Saws

A table saw is also known as a saw bench. This is typically used for cutting large pieces of wood works. It is a table with a fixed motor for cutting wood. It usually runs on electricity.

Using a table saw poses some inherent dangers. Therefore, there are basic safety measures you need to comply with before beginning to use this machine. For example, before anything else, make sure you have read the manual, especially the warning labels. Also make it a habit to lower your saw's blade under the table when the saw is not being used.

Saw Bench

When changing the blades or doing some maintenance on your table saw, always disconnect it to any power outlet. If you can not forestall it, always wear safety devices when working with your hands. Use a push stick when necessary. Never place your fingers in the path of the blade. always be alert because it is a very serious injury if the blade cuts your finger. always have your blade guard in place. If the blade guard that came with your saw is not to your liking, you can always get aftermarket guards with varied configurations.

The main purpose of the blade guard is to be used like a splitter, preventing cuts on the wood from pinching and conclusion the blade's rear, and then, kicking back. However, there are instances when your blade guard can come to be more of a threat than a safety tool, especially in smaller cuts of less than three inches and cuts with the push stick. In this case, it is best to remove it. Be truthful of wood with a tendency to kick back violently. The strong jolt backward can cause serious injury to the operator. To cut the kick back, use a riving knife or splitter.

Always wear safety for your eyes. This is vital in operating power tools. When your spinning saw blade's rotational mass is combined with a huge electric motor, it can consequent to the unexpected and violent ejection of materials. always wear safety for your ears. This is in order to forestall a steady hearing loss when you are using power equipments with no safety whatsoever. If you have long hair, tie it back. Loose hair can get in the way of the allowable mechanism of the table saw and cause it to malfunction. Also do not wear excessively loose clothes. It can accidentally come in close palpate with your blade.

You should adjust your table saw in a manner that the blade is fully parallel with the miter slots and the fence. If this is not parallel, your work piece can pinch in between the fence and the blade, inducing violent kickbacks. If you are already finishing the cut, make sure you push your material way past your saw. If the pieces are not pushed farther, your blade can come to be violently drawn and caught into your blade, and thus, resulting to kickbacks.

Always be defensive. Table saws are regarded as one of the most risky tool of a wood worker. You need to control cautiously and think determined at all times. With variations such as internal soldiery and structure affecting the nature of the wood, it is usual for these natural stresses to have the blade pinched plus thrown violently.

Decline Pushups For Incline Bench Press?

Can pushups build your upper chest just like the incline bench press? Yes, but they are called decline pushups. Pushups are a great exercise. What makes pushups such a great exercise is the capability to make minor changes that sway distinct parts of your chest and shoulders. One way to make a convert is by raising your feet. You can achieve this by putting your feet on a chair and hands on the floor. achieve your pushups with hands shoulder width apart. Having your feet raised targets the upper chest and the shoulders. The higher your feet, the higher up the chest the exercise will target. Make sure to tighten the core and have shoulders, butt and feet in line for maximum advantage and avoid injury.

Another way to alter the exercise is to convert the width of the placement of your hands. A narrower placement will target the interior quantum of the chest more and a wider hand placement will target the outer quantum of the chest. So, playing with distinct placements of your feet and hands gives you many distinct composition possibilities for this acceptable exercise.

Saw Bench

If that was not adequate for you, then try adding in a stability ball. Start by placing your feet on the ball and pushing off the floor. This exercise becomes a lot more difficult and unquestionably engages the core. I do not propose going to failure because the stability ball makes it more difficult to catch yourself.

Use decline pushups to help build your upper chest just like the incline bench press. I hope this helps you reach your exercise and fitness goals!

Glory of Old Penn middle point New York City

I never saw the late great Pennsylvania hasten middle point in New York City.

I have heard stories from habitancy who used to travel through the old station. It was a memorable palpate we are told. I have seen pictures in books. I have heard how the efforts to save the old middle point failed. This attempt to save Penn middle point was the stimulus for the creation of a New York City Landmarks Preservation Committee that was instrumental in the salvage of Grand Central concluding from the wrecking ball shortly after the old Penn Station's demise in 1963.

Saw Bench

Perhaps the old Pennsylvania middle point is more in myth now than it ever was in reality. I think not. I will communicate some aspects shortly.

Old Penn middle point was opened in 1910. It was designed by the legendary architectural firm of McKim, Mead and White. General create of the great construction was Beaux Arts which was a specialty of these architects. This style evolved nearby a distinctive Parisian style, which was a mix of many classical forms, and was more popular in the United States than it was in the rest of Europe.

Two existing New York City examples of the Beaux Arts style, and designed by McKim, Mead and White can be seen in Grand Central concluding and the New York collective Library building.

Having arrived in New York City by train some thirty years ago, I arrived in the gift Pennsylvania middle point that is small more than a subterranean maze of corridors, shops and stairs prominent to tracks. All in all the function of that train middle point is a good thing if you factor in the street level office tower above along with the sports arena Madison square Garden.

Madison square organery (Msg), "The Garden", is the fourth incarnation of a sports arena, the first two of which were settled just off Madison square starting one hundred and thirty years ago from 1879 through 1924 and thus the guess for the name tag.

The east face of the customary Penn middle point was classical. Its tall Doric columns met Seventh Avenue with a dull thud from all the photos I see at street level. The long roll of columns in a level line reminds me of many European cities of the nineteenth century with similar grand but dull surface architecture. The street architecture may be grand but they did not understand classical architecture then from a desired perspective. The lack of steps prominent up to Penn middle point in front is I think the only negative I have to say here in this posthumous critique.

The front was divided into three portals of entrance. The central main entrance at 32nd street was flanked on 31st street and 33rd street by grand carriage ways running the distance of the building. These carriage ways were built as a first class entrance and waiting area for horse drawn Brougham carriages already obsolete in 1910. Servicing the aristocracy and their needs seems to have used a great deal of ground space potential of the construction which began introductory excavations and construction starting in 1902.

Photos I've seen of these carriage ways show 1920's taxi cabs. There is a stone arched walkway above the individual carriage way and leads into the main waiting room from the side street entrances. On a grand scale and in term of today's architecture, this whole tangent of architectural attempt is both impressive and space wasteful.

Into the main entrance, the walking pedestrian trying to catch a train has to pass through a long Arcade Hallway. On scale it would look to be fifty feet in height and capable of handling thirty to forty habitancy abreast rushing back and forth at rush hours in the morning and evening. The Arcade is lined on both sides by at least a dozen store fronts to serve the public's needs the same then as now in terms of any communication hub. This Arcade hallway is bathed in natural light by semicircular arched windows from above. I begin to think of this hallway as an early form of crowd control prominent into the staging and production areas beyond.

At the end of the arcade hallway is the arched entrance prominent into the Waiting Room. In all photos I see this as the marker buying area. I see no benches in the customary setting of a waiting area being used to sit in the waiting process.

Also as we enter this great, grand and spacious vaulted area of the waiting area we are descending steps going down and enlarging the grand space. This is the opposite of the classical definition of Beaux Arts with steps prominent up into all dramatic architectural settings. From all photographs and hand painted postcards this Waiting Room was in its time the most grand and behemoth interior collective space in America. Two huge Corinthian columns stand guard on either side of the grand arch and main entrance from Seventh Avenue. Above is a vaulted ceiling and semicircular arched windows bathing the space in natural light.

The scale of these Corinthian columns is I think matching those surface the 30th street middle point construction in Philadelphia, the then headquarters of the Pennsylvania Railroad. Thirtieth street middle point is a still standing Art Deco marvel from the grand age of train travel. The austere surface Fdr era Fed keep (fascist) style architecture of the time is accented by classical behemoth Corinthian columns. No doubt the architects of 30th street middle point had the customary columns of Penn Station's interior in mind as models and something on the wish list from the board of directors in the construction of this new, in 1933, Philly station.

Before further describing this space of the Old Penn Station, let us back up a small and say that elements of one of the Grandest Baths in old Rome, the Baths of Caracalla, are the inspiration for this Old Penn middle point architectural model. To get a sense of an idealized visual in its day, of the Victorian Era's spin on the past, we can turn to an artistic rendering of the Baths of Caracalla. There is one 1845 watercolor I favor in the Royal Academy of Arts in London range by C.R. Cockerell which says it all in terms of a visual standard.

This Cockerell Victorian watercolor would seem to be what was available and could be compared with a modern day equivalent of a computer composite rendering of those once Roman baths. The watercolor as the recreated interior of those old roman baths served as a probable direct inspiration to the McKim Mead White team in their Penn Stations create project. The 1845 watercolor Baths of Caracalla Rome, shows the interior of the Tepidarium. The Tepidarium was the central grand hall of the baths and hub of all other bathing facilities within that construction complex.

Stepping down two grand sets of thirteen stone steps with a brief landing in the middle of the staircase, you find yourself at the lowest of those steps on the main grand floor or waiting room of Old Penn Station. Ahead of you is someone else grand archway prominent into the glass covered vaulted Concourse area with stairs prominent down to platforms next to tracks.

Staying here in the Waiting Room you do a 360 degree clockwise turn. The archway ahead is also flanked by giant Corinthian columns with full columns in all four corners of the room. Above is a vaulted ceiling. Three large semicircular sets of windows bath the room in light from that side of the room. Turning right a similar semicircular window is under the arch formed by the vauted ceiling above a doorway entrance and downward set of steps prominent from 33rd street. The lower lever of the waiting room has marker windows on all four sides of the room.

Turning back to the entrance archway from Seventh Avenue there are niches on the walls within the archway for the modern equivalent of demi-gods with statues of hasten Presidents and the like.

Without any specific estimation to gift to you I give you my impression of scale from photos alone and hope you have been in the presently standing Grand Central concluding ten blocks north and three avenues over east on the New York City street grid. I would say that the Old Penn middle point is about two thirds of the gift floor space of Grand Central is you define floor space as immediately below the blue constellation covered vault above. Height of the Old Penn would appear to be one third higher than Grand Central's main hall.

The final turn in the old "Tepidarium" Penn waiting room sees someone else side entrance on 31st street and round back to the entrance to the Concourse of legendary fame.

I believe there are snippets of the old Penn middle point Concourse in movies. It was often imitated and reconstructed on movie lot sound stages with the Penn Concourse as the departing and reunion point of many loves while Wwii. There is a short video on the Internet by filmmaker Stephen Kellam showing the Concourse in computer animation and as part of that previously mentioned Penn middle point as the town of many loves and heart breaks. I invite you to crusade it out and no doubt there are countless other photos and reproductions out there.

From the waiting room we exit through small scale glass doors into the Concourse which is where there is seating for habitancy waiting for trains. I guess that the marker buying waiting area was heated in winter. Waiting there in the warmth was I guess good that waiting in the what I guess was an unheated area in winter and depending on body heat only to warm you in the Concourse.

Through the glass doors and into the Concourse is like Alice slipping through the seeing glass. In a sense and from the street on Seventh Avenue and the main entrance, we have come through the twentieth century Arcade or shopping mall into a magnificent interpretation of a third century Roman bath's main hall. From here we are transported to a glory of modern man, an amalgam of the market age reaching its zenith into the age of mass produced steel and glass.

From the direct or muted tones of natural light in the Waiting Room we reach into the total light of a vaulted cast iron and steel framework with a roof totally sheathed in glass panels. Standing at the entrance way into the Concourse one sees the grand clock and its roman numerals and we get to see, imagine, the Crystal Palace of 1851 and Kew Gardens' conservatory combined in a magnificent space to accomodate and perfectly accent the power of the age of the steam train engine.

With my small travel experience, I can only say that in terms of the nineteenth century's grand tribute to the train travel, Victoria middle point and Gard du Nord are good tries but the Old Penn middle point got it right in many categories of magnificent attempt and supervene on the emotional and sensual level of the every day traveler, the commuter. Compared to Old Penn's Concourse, Victoria and Gard Du Nord's train areas are merely train sheds with some glass panels in the train shed roof.

In, under, this lighted space of the Penn Concourse are habitancy coming and going in all directions and through four entrances. There are habitancy waiting on benches. There are newspaper stands and snack stands. There are the stair entrance ways to some tracks below. In an imitation of modern power flows, the Concourse area is Grand Central, Broadway, and Jfk airport all in one ball of architectural wax.

The Old Penn middle point was truly the Versailles of Train Stations with its interior spaces. It's loss made, makes, many of us keenly aware what was finally lost. The so called space demands of New York City was a poor excuse for tearing down this Wonder of the modern World.

These days, a Msg could be built as a Sports Arena on the Hudson River next to the custom center. There is such a thing as too dense a habitancy of habitancy even by Manhattan standards. The calming supervene of an oasis of grand collective space in the middle of all the chaotic power of everyday Nyc would be greatly welcome these days.

I don't know if the Waiting Room of the old Penn middle point will ever be recreated. I can any way see the grand Concourse area being resurrected in some great airport, spaceport or other communication hub of the future. The Old Penn middle point is a classical appropriate of the gilded age and worthy of a excellent revival in the future.

Chainsaw Sharpeners - Is It Worth Buying Online?

A chainsaw sharpener is a real asset. There are any different types to choose from depending on how much you use your saw and whether you want to edge the saw yourself or just touch it up a diminutive in the middle of professional sharpening. I'll tell you about the sharpeners ready and how you can get one for the best price online.

The last time I took my chainsaw to the shop to be sharpened I was cutting down a huge old diseased apple tree in my yard. My trusty poulon couldn't cope with the bigger branches or trunk. The saw wasn't faulty, it wouldn't cut because the chain was too blunt. Instead of cutting into the wood without much exertion I had to push the saw into the wood. My saw was making chips that were like sawdust. I know chainsaws are perilous when the chain gets dull so I head over to my local dealer.

Saw Bench

At first It seems like a great idea to take your saw to your dealer for sharpening. They can get the blades and depth guides back in shape. But it does work out expensive, especially as most dealers will grind off colse to 2mm of metal when they edge a chain. More than is nothing else but needed and before you know it you need a new chain.

There are a few different kinds of chain saw sharpener available, there are small conveyable and bar mounted ones. Some that are diminutive more than file guides. These are ok to keep your saw sharp enough to keep going or out in the field. For best results a bench mounted sharpener will speed up the process and you'll be able to edge like a pro without the expense.

Finding great deals
You may look online to avoid the hassle of going from one store to another only to find they don't stock what you're looking for or the prices are too high. And it's true that there are good discounts to be found from internet retailers, especially if they can contribute free shipping. looking the best deals is time consuming, but the work has been done for you.

Now slip in the post brackets and place the bench seat on top of it. Ultimately screw in the posts into the benches with those you have been provided in the kit. Now sand the edges and seat, or use a water sealant to varnish the top of the bench. Now even you would say that Manufacture wood benches is easy.

Start out by measuring and cutting all your stock according to the cutting list and set it aside. Take the legs and mark out the tapers. The taper starts 20" up from the bottom. The leg tapers to 3-1/2" at the bottom. Repeat for all the legs and cut out.

The legs join the main stretchers at 75°. This cut is best made with a circular saw. Mark your lines, clamp the stock on edge and cut. Flip the stock over to the other edge and make the straight through cut.

Saw Bench

Time for some assembly. On the main stretcher mark a line 1-1/2" from each end. This is the outer face of the leg. Now make a second mark in from one edge 1". This is the top of the leg. Do this for each leg on both stretchers.

Apply some glue to the angled side of the leg and position on the marks you just made on the stretcher. Accumulate with 4 - 2" screws. Repeat for all the legs.

Position the 3/8" plywood braces on the outside face of the legs butting into the the bottom face of the main stretcher. Scribe the angle onto the braces with your pencil and cut. Apply some glue to the outside of the legs and Accumulate the braces with 6 screws, three into each leg.

Now draw 2 lines down the distance of each top step, offset 3/4" from center. Countersink 5 holes, 3/4" deep in each step. Alternate the holes on each side of center. Position the top onto the stretcher flush with the ends. Accumulate with screws only.

Finally Accumulate the lower step midway up the leg using screws & adhesive.

That's all there is to it. These saw horses will indubitably take the load of a lift of plywood or studs. Plus the make a great scaffold. Space about 8' apart and Accumulate a 2 x 10 in the middle of them.

All About Miter Saws

From the dawn of time, there has always been a purposeful use and great need for tools. Whether they are used to cut, create, carve, hang, build or power our world, we would never get anyone done without using tools to help us do so.

Out of the hundreds of different types of tools available on the shop today, saws are often among the most favorite and will likely be found in just about every home work area over the country.

Saw Bench

There are many different types of saws, from hand saws to table saws, manual to electric, even though they all ultimately perform the same type of activity - cutting wood or other materials -each one also performs a different and unique function.

For some projects, you need the brute force of a table or bench saw, but for more delicate and precision projects - such as trim work, framing, molding or any scheme that needs any kind of cross-cutting work - you will need to use combination miter saws.

Miter saws are the power tool of selection when making bevelled edges that will ultimately be joined together at the joints to originate strict angles. combination miter saws have a component that unmistakably allows the angle of the blade to be adjusted in relation to the horizontal plane of the material needing to be cut.

These saws allow the blade angle to range from -50 to 50 degrees so that no matter what angle you might need for the scheme at hand, you can perform the cuts with one piece of machinery.

Because of the precision and versatility of combination miter saws, there is commonly no scheme too delicate or involved to perform - especially when using a motorized miter saw as opposed to the old style manual ones that employed a hand saw and a blade guard to make cuts.

If you ever find yourself needing to make strict angled cuts for any scheme you may be doing colse to the home, then you should check into purchasing or renting a miter saw in order to perform the exquisite look.

Just about every brand name tool maker has their own version and accessories for miter saws so you know you will be getting a trustworthy product. By using the right tool for the job, you will ensure solid craftsmanship for many years to come.

The Jet Band Saw Brings potential Power to the firm of Cutting Tools

Buying a band saw? Don't just go for one of those low-priced but unknown brands. Choose one of the proven product brands in the world: The Jet band saw.

When Leslie P. Sussman founded his firm back in 1958 he only envisioned it to be one of the exceptional small trading companies in Seattle. He never improbable that his firm would grow and become a producer of one of the most recognizable brands in the Us: Jet tools.

Saw Bench

Nowadays, Jet is known as one of the most trustworthy makers of power tools. Jet band saws are among the countless examples of ability Jet brands.

Stationary Jet Band Saw:

Heavy-duty work calls for heavy-duty equipment. Those who do heavy woodworking or metalworking tasks require stationary band saws to adapt large work pieces. There are many stationary saws sold in the store today, but few live up to the expectations of workshop owners.

Jet produces one of the best stationary band saws in the world. A big fancy why a Jet band saw is beloved by many habitancy is their breathtaking durability. As a long time player in the band saw development industry, Jet is all too aware of the need for durable saws. So their engineers have made sure that their stationary saws will stand through specific workshop work and last for many years.

What makes the stationary band saws from Jet so durable? The underground to their durability lies in the materials. They are not made from light materials that are precisely get damaged. Jet band saws are made from cast iron. As we all know, cast iron is one of those materials that can withstand severe punishment and can well last for many, many years.

But durability is not the only thing that you will get with Jet saws. Any task that is performed with a band saw requires precision. development wrong cuts is a big No. No one would like to spend more time in the workshop just to strict wrong cuts.

One thing that can affect the accuracy of a cut is the table. If it is not polished, chances are you will keep on producing erroneous cuts. There is, however, no room for wrong cuts with a stationary Jet saw. Why is it so? Quite simply, a Jet band saw has a precision table with a polished cast iron surface. Regardless of the ability of the work piece, you can be sure that you will make strict cuts over and over again with their stationary saws.

Bench-top Jet Band Saw:

For some people, there might not be enough room for a bulky stationary saw. If you prefer a smaller band saw, then the best choice might be a bench-top Jet band saw. They only weigh 17 kg and will not take up a lot of space in your workshop. They may not have the monstrous power of the stationary saw, but they can still achieve at exceptional levels. With a bench-top Jet saw, you can also expect the same precision that is offered by their stationary counterparts. Also, you can be sure that all Jet band saws will last for a long time, as all are made from the most durable of materials.

The ultimate Guide to Your Most hazardous Woodworking Power Tools

"What is the most perilous woodworking power tool?"

The chilling experiences and hard-knock wisdom from both forums inspired this article, and I hope that by reading this and following the links I furnish that you come to be a safer, more tool-respecting woodworker.

The #1 Most perilous Power Tool
After over 100 responses to the "most perilous tool" examine the seasoned woodworkers from both forums delivered an unequivocal answer.

There Is nothing else but a power tool that's more perilous than any other in your wood shop and you need to treat this tool with more respect and care than your table saw, shaper, jointer or chain saw.

And the number one most perilous power tool in your wood shop is You.

Make sure that You treat every tool with the respect and care it deserves, that every tool you use is well maintained and well sharpened, and that your wood shop or work area is tidy sufficient to prevent spills.

Also, learn to listen intimately to your internal voice of experience. Many woodworkers record mental "gosh this is dangerous," or "this could nothing else but hurt" right before their big trip to the crisis room. Back off immediately if you find your protection senses tingling.

I) the Top Ten Most Feared and Respected Tools by Woodworkers
Below you'll find the top ten most feared and respected woodworking power tools based on the votes they received in FamilyWoodworking and WoodNet. I counted votes as tool mentions, and I counted more than one "most perilous tool" per someone if they listed more than one. This is Not intended to be scientific in any way, nor is it intended to recommend that you be more particular with one tool than any other.

Also, because these woodworkers indicated that maintenance is such an leading factor in tool safety, I included maintenance resources - when ready - for each tool.

There's a similar non-scientific most perilous woodworking tool search for from rec.woodworking... The results are quite similar, though neither search for listed there comprise a wood shaper...

Also, WoodNet's Jakesaw pointed out this web-based power tool protection project that lets you input how you got hurt, what hurt you, and your experience level so that others can come later and learn from your mistakes. Awesome.

Update - Yak from WoodNet pointed to the mother of all woodworker's protection guides from Osha.

1) You are the most perilous power tool (or - alternately - which ever tool you use next is the most dangerous)
I'm not sure if the tool operator got the most votes for being the most perilous or not. I do appraisal that "the power tool operator" got the most allembracing conversation, seminar and moot in both forums.

Treat every tool you use with respect... And check out the "condition of the user" section below for more ideas on holding a "safety first" mentality while using power tools.

It's impossible to overemphasize that the tool between your ears is nothing else but the most perilous tool you possess...

2) The Table Saw: 15 Votes
The table saw received the most votes, beating out the shaper by two.

I noticed that many guys who said "table saw" mentioned that they'd heard it was the most statistically dangerous, not that they feared or respected it the most.

Even so, the table saw is a formidable wood shop tool and worthy of respect due to its frequency of use and the sheer number of saws in wood shops around the world.

3) The Shaper: 13 Votes
I sensed the most power tool respect... And fear... In the replies that included the superior shaper. What is it that gives woodworkers pause when firing up the "grand father of routers?" It's got to be the size of the blades on those bits... And the realization of the size of hole it could make in your body.

Shaper:

4) Chain Saw: 6 Votes
The roaring engine, the exposed and oh-so-mobile blade, the Texas Chain Saw Massacre, is it any surprise that the chain saw made its way onto the list? My only surprise is that it made the list from guys at woodworking forums... That said, there is an piquant thread in woodnet about chain saw sawmills...

5) Router: 6 Votes
In the tool kit of many a wood shop, the versatile router is also amongst the top most-feared power tools, though primarily when used free hand. Why? Some guys have gruesome imaginations when it comes to fixing corporeal damage from a router... As one forum member put it, you can sew fingers back on but there's no sewing back what a router could do to you.

The band saw is other wood shop proper that seems relatively harmless... Especially next to something like a chain saw. I think it made the list in part because it's a tool that many woodworker are comfortable with. Comfortable = dangerous.

8) The Chisel: 2 Votes

10) The Circular Saw: 2 Votes
The circular saw is a power tool standard. Its usage spans across groups, from Diyers to woodworkers to general contractors and beyond. Save for the religiously-hand tooled, few self-reliant tool kits are without a circular saw and, like the table saw or band saw, familiarity and frequent usage make them dangerous.

Ii) The Most perilous Power Tools Statistically
I noticed once or twice in the forums guys cited government studies about which tools are, statistically speaking, responsible for putting the most guys in the crisis room.

In the study I found from the Us buyer product protection Commission (Cpsc) - Hazard Screening Report: Power Tools and Workshop tool from 2003 (warning - that link is a Pdf) - I was Not able to statistically resolve the power tool that put the most people in the hospital.

However, the tool group - after "manual workshop tools (hammers, utility knives, chisels etc...)" and "Misc. Workshop tools" - that caused the most health care charge was Bench or Table Saws, at around billion.

Anecdotally speaking, Frank Fusco of FamilyWoodworking, whose son is a Board Certified crisis room physician in a Level 1 trauma unit, noted: "I'll repeat what my son, an crisis room physician, says. The most frequent serious injuries are with table saws.

The second most frequent serious injuries, in terms of numbers of incidents, are from miter and/or combination miter sliders.

However, in terms of most devasting the Csm is far and away the worst. Those commonly involve finger amputations. The table saw accidents are serious gashes but (usually) leave the fingers in place.

He also says that most of those injuries are to guys like me, middle age to retired age. And, they all say the same thing, 'I never do it that way, but just this once.........'"Don't let the statistics scare you - too much. It only makes sense that the tools that we use the most often end up hurting us the most frequently. It's far more leading to look at our next section - the health of the user.

Iii) The health of the User
Time and again the guys in the forums reminded me that the User is the most perilous power tool, and that the most perilous power tool is the one that you pick up next.

I identified any other condition-of-the-user-related points from their comments, and combined that with some wise words from Basic Woodshop Safety, by Howard Ruttan, who I'll quote here:"If you are hungry or sick, tired or angry, hot or thirsty, you are at risk. Don't work if you are overly fatigued or not feeling up to your game. Attitude is highly leading also. Remember that woodworking is supposed to be fun. Isn't that why you are doing it? Take a break when you get frustrated. Don't work angry."

Some other perilous mental conditions include:woodworker's just too comfortable with the tool and doesn't give it proper respect trying new tool out just for a second - one woodworker told a story of opportunity up a new chisel just to try it out for a second, resulting in a trip to the hospital ignored/didn't fully recognize the importance of the pre-tingles that sometimes come before getting hurt (Stay Alert!! many injured by power tools record tingling senses...) trying something new, cutting/chopping/ripping/drillng in a different way - experimentation is leading and necessary... And risky. Remember the words that Fusco's son hears in the trauma unit from injured woodworkers: "I never do it that way, but just this once........" working tired, hungry, rushed, angry or some combo of the four... lazy - doing job the quick way do I nothing else but need to put drunk or drinking alcohol on here? Gosh I nothing else but hope not.

Iv) The health of the Tools
"i`d say that i agree with the most perilous powertool being one that`s poorly maintained, specifically one with dull cutters....
shapers/routers-n-moulders will turn meat into hamburger....no repairs!"
- Tod Evans

Tod, of FamilyWoodworking, says it well. Take care of each power tool you own as advised in the manual. Sharper is safer.

Tool Maintenance Made Easy, an exquisite record from Rockler, breaks it down like this:

Part I - holding Them Sharp
Part Ii - holding Them True
Part Iii - holding Them Clean and Smooth
Part Iv - holding Them Running Smooth

Want the details? Read Tool Maintenance Made Easy for tips and advice.

If you'd like a second concept This Old House brings us Tlc for Power Tools.

Osha delivers, more for the wood shop enterprise owner, Hand And transportable Powered Tools, which includes base repairs and things to watch for.

V) The health of Your Workspace
Are you the neat and tidy type? If you're like me you've got dishes on your desk and clothes on the bedroom floor. This means you have to work twice as hard to keep your wood shop or workspace safe straight through cleanliness and organization.

That said, it's not just tidiness that keeps you safe... It's also holding your workspace free from distractions that break your vital concentration. This includes, but it not little to the radio, someone hollering that the phone is for you, your cell phone ringing and the list could go on...

Minimize interruptions by notifying - in no uncertain terms - the folks around you that they are not to speak to you when you're operating power tools.

from protection In The Woodshop I'd like to point you to:
Make definite you have proper lighting when carving. Spotlights are preferable to overhead incandescent or fluorescent lighting. Lighting located behind and to your side best highlights your work.

Keep floor swept and clear of tools and other clutter. Wood chips and dust pose many protection concerns (e.g. Respiratory, fire, safe footing).

And keep those power cords off the floor!

The National Ag protection Database offers some great guidelines on a safe wood shop. They comprise suggestions and guidelines for stuff like lighting, heat source, ventilation, wiring, fire extinguishers and more.

Here's Shop protection by the Nasd.

This shop protection guide from Ohio State provides an exquisite shop protection checklist... And then protection guides to many of the power tools mentioned above.

Vi) Woodworking protection Accessories
Do you have push sticks, push blocks and a finger or feather board? These are very easy to make and are ready roughly anywhere you can buy good power tools or wood.

Here's a short little guide to using push sticks to growth your protection Using Push Sticks

About.com's Chris Baylor teaches you how to Make Your Own Featherboards

And the Diy network offers a rundown on all of the woodworking protection accessories I mentioned above.

Vii) First Aid
You keep a first aid kit in your wood shop for the same guess you drive with auto insurance. No Not because it's the Law... Because luck favors the prepared.

I particularly liked the woodworker's first aid kit as described by Howard Ruttan. Not only is it comprehensive, but it has some of the real-world humor you only hear from woodworkers. Such as at the end of his guess for holding a 1 gallon plastic bag in your first aid kit: Used for carrying amputated bits in whilst en route to the hospital. I am not kidding here. Just last year a undertaker of a package deal in Pennsylvania cut his whole hand off in a sliding combination miter saw. The bag has to be big sufficient for every contingency. Try to wash the amputed part before placing it in the bag. However, if you are unable to, I am sure the doctors will understand.

The Diy network also provides an exquisite overview of what should be in your first aid kit.

Viii) Bonus: Wood Shop protection Humor

"Wait A Minute" I can hear you thinking... What does Humor have to do with Safety?

One of the cool things about forums - and one of the pains sometimes - is how a conversation thread can take a sharp and sudden turn, sometimes 180 degrees from where it once pointed.

Bill Wilson took the WoodNet.net thread 180 degrees with his clever, creative and funny response to my examine about the most perilous power tools.

Here's a taste:
Welcome to The Wild Wood Shop. Today we will search for the unique ecosystem, known as the home woodshop. Below is a brief record of some well-known wood shop dwellers.

Table Saw (unisawrus rippicus)
A solitary and regal predator, the table saw employs sharp superior teeth, well superior for ripping even the hardest woods with relative ease. There are any varieties of table saws, fluctuating from the small bench top, to the king of table saws, nothing else but the king of the predators, the Unisaw. Though primarily a stationary creature, it is maybe one of the most active of all woodshop animals. Table saws have proliferated and are found in nearly all shops where wood is in sufficient supply. They prefer choice, imported hardwoods, but when hungry will facilely feed on economy domestic softwoods. They have come to be less of a threat to humans, due to particular breeding and training, but still are to be considered quite dangerous, especially while feeding. Occasionally they will, with minimal provocation, disgorge their food with astonishing force.

Push Broom (sweepus seldomus)
The most primitive and oldest species of wood shop animal. It is believed that ancestors of the modern push broom were domesticated millions of years before the first wood shop animals appeared and often cohabited with humans. They slowly were relegated to garage, basement and shop environments while the Electrolux era. This venerable and uncomplicated scavenger has survived the eons due primarily to its quality to go for long periods of time without food. By conserving its energy, it can appear to fall into a near trance-like state of suspended animation for extended periods of time. Unlike the voracious Dust collector and Shop Vac with which it competes, the push broom is article to sit idle for days, even months.

Thanks + Wrapping it Up
I would like to enlarge a special thanks to the woodworkers at WoodNet.net and FamilyWoodworking.org who contributed so much wisdom and experience to this project. If you're hungry for more woodworking community I gladly point you to Both forums as astonishing environments for learning.

I hope this guide helped you recognize some ways you can take more accountability for your personal wood shop safety.
